LIA VANPOOLS LLC TIPS

A little commuter etiquette goes a long way in keeping each vanpool running smoothly:

  • Each van will have an assigned Vanpool Coordinator. For a vanpool to run efficiently, any operational issues related to a LIA Van should be discussed directly and only with the LIA Vanpools Manager (Tele: 540-903-5447; Email: liavanpools@gmail.com).

Routes and Roles

  • Determine the basic vanpool route.
  • Decide when and where the designated pickup points and times will be at the Park & Ride Lots.
  • Decide who will be the primary driver and who will be the alternate drivers. Drivers must be responsible, have a clean driving record, and be enthusiastic.
  • Drive carefully. The driver should always make sure passengers feel that they are in good hands. Distracted driving is prohibited. 

Promptness

  • Establish a rule for latecomers. Decide how long the vanpool will wait for a passenger (3-5 minutes is usually recommended).
  • Be on time to meet in the mornings and after work. This applies to both drivers and riders.
  • Allow extra time during inclement weather.
  • Avoid errands or personal detours.

Communication

  • Exchange information with fellow vanpoolers, including work, cell phone numbers, and emergency contacts. Elect a person to be the point of contact for early morning calls regarding absences and delays.
  • Set up a line of communication and have a backup plan for emergency situations (e.g. illness, weather delays, school closures, family emergency).
  • Notify fellow vanpoolers a day or more in advance, if someone cannot make it on a given day or have a personal emergency.
  • Please don’t forget to give notice of vacation, personal, or overtime plans.

Etiquette

  • Keep the van clean. Take all personal belongings, including newspapers and trash with you in the mornings and after work.
  • Agree up front on personal preferences such as choice of radio stations, preferred or assigned seating, and cell phone usage.
  • Cell phone usage should be minimal. Be respectful of others and that they are not interested in your conversations.
  • No smoking is allowed in any LIA VANPOOLS LLC commuter route.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed in any of our vans.
